American Association of Colleges of Nursing (AACN)

The American Association of Colleges of Nursing (AACN) advocates for the support of advanced science publicly, education for nurses, and works for practice to describe high levels of standards for nursing education, aiding schools in enforcing those standards and affecting nursing professionalism to advance the quality of care in the medical department.

AACN maintains seven leadership networks, including organizational leadership, instructional development, research, faculty practice, graduate student recruitment, business operations, and communications and development (Cullen et al., 2022). Each network organizes annual meetings for its participants and provides additional information and ways how to join in the membership brochure.

Diversity and Inclusion

The Association of Nursing Colleges in America highly recommends advancing diversity and inclusivity. The association accommodates and represents the core interests of its members. The Diversity Equality and Inclusion Group (DEIG) involves AACN faculty members exploring creative ways to advance diversity.

Current Outcomes of the Initiative

The future of nursing finds the need to advance nursing education by transforming the health care system and practice environments. According to the 2011 study report by IOM, nursing education continues to pay attention to training nurses to meet patient needs, upgrade their research skills and teach them to be leaders. The 2011 IOM study, however, shows that to collaborate efficiently with other practitioners, nurses need to get higher levels of education both at the beginning and during their careers.

Curriculum Requirement of the AACN Program

AACN has created a set of primary documents detailing competency requirements for undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctorate students using a national consensus approach (Chiu et al., 2021). The documents are used to make sure that their educational services meet the highest possible expectations.

The Processes Used By AACN In Formulating and Implementing a Policy Agenda

These processes include setting agendas, adapting to the set agendas, designing policies, enacting or validating the designed policies, and evaluating the implemented policies. The AACN takes critical steps to initiate, implement, and enforce policy changes to benefit the nursing healthcare system.
